Not for casual fans of the hazy IPA style, Thick Haze is unfiltered to let flavorful, aromatic hop particles run the show.

Pine and grapefruit hop aromas and flavors reminiscent of the West Coast IPAs of yesteryear are delivered with the amplitude and silkiness of a modern hazy IPA. Pilsner and Munich malts create rich aromatics of honey and brown sugar. Fresh baked wheat-bready goodness washes over the palate with notes of toffee, pie crust and biscuit.

A voluminously hopped mutha of a pale ale with assertive flavors of pale malts and citrusy, floral hops. A crisp, gently hopped and crushable craft pilsner built with pilsner and honey malt, then hopped with Saaz and Aramis hops. A dry-hopped double red IPA with a nose full of aroma, a sticky mouthfeel, a malty middle and unctuous hop flavors.

Scottish strong ale brewed with a recklessly bodacious amount of malted barley and specialty grains. A darker-than-dark black hole of burly imperial stout flavor hiding 65 IBUs under a smooth blanket of malt. You'd need a foghorn to navigate the haze in this baby. A complex, international blend of Motueka, Amarillo, Mandarina Bavaria, Citra and Experimental Hop contribute to a big, juicy, citrusy IPA experience with notes of orange, tangerine, and zesty tropical fruit.

The weekend-long lawn jam on their scenic REEB Ranch 8 miles from the brewery includes a beer fest with over 50 craft-canning breweries, internationally touring bands, camping, food trucks, and plenty of mountain sports - all based at the foot of DuPont State Forest. Saturday morning brings group mountain bike rides, as well as a trail run and a paddle on the French Broad River. The ranch even has a bike park with dual slalom course. Saturday night band keeps the fun going. When they both graduated from Auburn University 20 years ago, the couple made the fateful decision to move to Wise River, Mont. They loaded up the van and set out, but they only made it as far as Boulder, where they stopped to visit friends.

And so they did. In fact, Katechis got two jobs in Boulder, working 7 a. Katechis, a home brewer in his college days, followed his nose one day to find the source, a guy named Gordon Knight, whose High Country Brewery was on the cutting edge of the now wildly popular big-hopped beers. He and Christi maxed out four credit cards to start a southern-style restaurant in Lyons, north of Boulder, where they had just bought a house. In the early days of Oskar Blues, Katechis sometimes wondered what he had gotten himself into.

The first idea, live music, was an instant hit. Lyons has a sizable population of bluegrass musicians, and touring blues artists made sure to put Oskar Blues on their itinerary. Soon the place was rocking almost every night.

The next idea was the real game changer: turn the place into a brewpub. In the late s, Katechis turned his homebrews into beers to serve on tap at the restaurant, transforming the Oskar Blues basement into the first incarnation of the brewery.

Soon, people were coming to Lyons just to sample the famous ales, which had begun racking up awards. Knowing he was onto something, Katechis decided to start packaging the beer for sale at retailers.
