You've probably seen some of Sanderson's movies. Meanwhile, what really made Sanderson's distinctive, non-leading-man face recognizable was his television work — in the weekly HBO programs "Deadwood" and "True Blood," sure, but especially in the NBC sitcom "Newhart. The book is filled with frank and sometimes embarrassing anecdotes about bar fights, arrests, cases of foot-in-mouth disease, spasms of crippling self-doubt, and — to use a term a mom might endorse — bad choices.
Meanwhile, in front of the camera, Sanderson also rarely represented a role model, instead being cast — even "typecast," he writes — as "the bad guy, the renegade, the perv, the oddball, the miscreant, the go-to weirdo. Sanderson devotes perhaps a fourth of the book to events in Memphis, remembering his schoolteacher mother, "Lib," his problematic father, Milt, his protective big brother, John, and various classmates at Springdale Elementary, Snowden Junior High, and Central High School.
